What to expect in therapy

Therapy is meant to be effective, supportive, and insightful. Together we will build on your strengths and work to achieve real gains. What some people do not expect is that therapy is a joint partnership between you and your therapist. The first step is to get to know each other. This is a time where you share and reflect, then together, we figure out the best way to go forward.

Therapy is your space and time and you are the driving force in the session. I am here with you to help you interpret your feelings, to help you find your way, but I’m not here to judge or tell you what to do.

In my approach, I emphasize ownership. Self-determination is a serious part of your life that you commit to. You will start looking forward to and enjoying the changes therapy brings.

From the initial consultation to the achievement of your goals

During our initial consultation, we will discuss your specific needs, concerns, and goals. Next, I will work with you to create a specialized therapy plan.  Once we’ve had a chance to talk I can provide answers to any questions you may have. I will go over what you can expect for your specific challenges and the outcomes you can expect from therapy.

Based on the goals you wish to reach we will develop a plan of action to get you there. Therapy is conducted with the aim of finding and developing your strengths so you can take these skills with you as you move forward into a better feeling and healthier life.

In my practice, I use evidence-based techniques that are effective in treating issues such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. Healing takes place in a gentle and supportive environment. In therapy, you can expect to develop concrete problem-solving skills, greater self-awareness, and emotional growth.
